Pilot Proficiency Training in New Jersey: IFR, IPC, and Flight Review
Century Air offers FAA-approved pilot proficiency and currency training programs at Essex County Airport (KCDW) in Caldwell, New Jersey, approximately 30 minutes from New York City. Whether you need to restore lapsed instrument currency, complete your biennial Flight Review, or sharpen your IFR skills before the winter season, our programs are designed for certificated pilots at every experience level. Century Air’s proficiency training is conducted using both our Frasca 242 flight simulator and our Garmin G1000 glass-cockpit simulator, the only G1000 simulator in the Northeastern United States.
Instrument Refresher Course

The Instrument Refresher Course at Century Air is a one-day program designed for IFR-current pilots who want to maintain and sharpen their instrument flying skills. The course combines ground instruction and approach procedures review with a comprehensive simulator session. Training is available in both the Frasca 242 simulator and our Garmin G1000 glass-cockpit simulator, which is particularly valuable for pilots flying G1000-equipped aircraft such as the Cirrus SR-22, Cessna 172S, or similar glass-panel platforms. Century Air recommends that all instrument pilots complete this course every 6 months to maintain currency, confidence, and safe IFR skills in the New York and New Jersey airspace.
Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC)
If your instrument currency has lapsed, Century Air offers a thorough Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC) at Essex County Airport (KCDW) in Caldwell, New Jersey. The IPC is divided into three phases: ground instruction, simulator training, and aircraft flight. The time required depends on how long your currency has lapsed and your prior experience level. Our IPC instructors include FAA Designated Examiners with extensive IFR experience, and training is conducted in both the Frasca 242 and Garmin G1000 simulator environments before transitioning to the aircraft. The IPC covers all aspects of instrument flying and returns you to safe, current, and confident IFR operations in the New York and New Jersey area.
Flight Review (FR)
All certificated pilots must complete a Flight Review (FR) every 24 calendar months to maintain currency. Century Air’s Flight Review consists of a minimum of one hour of ground instruction and one hour of flight training, conducted at Essex County Airport (KCDW) in Caldwell, New Jersey. Pilots who have maintained consistent proficiency typically complete the Flight Review in a single session. Pilots who have not flown recently may require additional preparatory training before the review to reach the required proficiency standard. Contact us to discuss your recent flight history and we will recommend the appropriate preparation.
Airline Interview Preparation
Century Air’s Airline Interview Preparation program is a 2 to 3 hour specialized simulator training session designed to maximize your performance in airline pilot job interviews. The program is conducted personally by Richard Greene, a retired American Airlines Captain, FAA Designated Examiner, and President of Century Air, who brings firsthand knowledge of what major and regional airline hiring panels look for in interview candidates. 95 percent of pilots who have completed this program have successfully received employment offers following their airline interview. For pilots in the New York and New Jersey area pursuing first officer positions with Republic Airways, JetBlue, United, or other regional and major carriers, this program is one of the most direct investments available in your hiring outcome. The Airline Interview Preparation program is available as a standalone session or as a complement to Century Air’s Professional Pilot Program for graduates pursuing their Republic Airways guaranteed first officer interview.
