Insurance-Approved Recurrent and Initial Training: CRM, LOFT, Aircraft and Simulator Programs

To maintain proficiency and meet insurance company requirements, aircraft owners of multi-engine and/or high-performance aircraft must complete initial aircraft training and then follow up with recurrent training on an annual basis. Century Air is an insurance-approved initial and recurrent training center located at Essex County Airport (KCDW) in Fairfield, New Jersey, approximately 30 minutes from New York City. Whether you are transitioning to a new aircraft type or maintaining currency in an aircraft you already fly, our programs are structured for each pilot’s individual needs and aircraft type.

The airlines have long recognized the importance of recurrent training, and it is a significant reason for their outstanding safety record. At Century Air, we believe these airline-quality standards can and should be extended to all levels of general aviation flying. Our programs utilize CRM (Crew Resource Management) training, a methodology traditionally reserved for corporate flight departments and major airlines. Century Air is one of very few general aviation flight schools in the New York and New Jersey area to implement CRM training methods into initial and recurrent aircraft programs, bringing true airline-quality standards to private and business pilots at our Essex County Airport training center.

Century Air is one home to one of the few stand-alone Simulator Training Centers in the Northeastern United States, featuring the full-motion MCX (AATD) for multi-engine training (classic or G1000 panel) which is able to simulate a variety of multi-engine aircraft including Piper Twin Comanche, Beechcraft Baron and Piper Seminole, to name a few. For G1000 specific training, the Frasca Mentor is also an exceptional avionics platform. All simulator training is conducted by highly experienced instructors and structured for each individual pilot’s needs and aircraft type. Realistic simulator training scenarios include low-visibility taxiing and takeoffs, IFR navigation, holding, GPS and glass-cockpit avionics usage, approaches to minimums, and missed approaches. Emergency procedures emphasized include engine and instrument failures, landing gear problems, systems failures, electrical malfunctions, icing, and much more. Training in the simulator is invaluable, allowing the pilot to experience real world scenarios that cannot be duplicated in an airplane.

Using a multi-faceted approach of ground instruction and proven LOFT (Line Oriented Flight Training) techniques, our initial and recurrent training programs at Essex County Airport deliver the confidence and skill level required to operate your aircraft safely and professionally.
